About & How to use
What this is: an interactive replication of Ed Hawkins' climate stripes for cities, with annual & seasonal anomaly views. Built to demonstrate data manipulation + accessible visualisation.
Data caveats: city alignment and infilling aren’t perfect; treat this as a visual tool. For formal use, see the official sources.
- Pick a country then a city, or use Search.
- Switch Season between Annual, DJF, MAM, JJA, SON.
- Toggle View between Bars and Stripes.
- Change Baseline (1850–1900 or 1961–2010).
- Set Colour scale: Fixed, Auto-symmetric, or Auto-range.
- Use ← / → to cycle cities; Download PNG saves the chart.
My takeaways
Big picture: even without a fully rigorous scientific workflow here, the visual signal is consistent across a large set of cities.
- Clear warming trend: annual bars/stripes shift toward warmer anomalies in many locations.
- Seasons warm too: despite higher intra-season variability than annual series, DJF/MAM/JJA/SON generally show the same warming signal.
- Recent decades: the last ~20–30 years are frequently at the warm end of the scale.
Try different baselines and scale modes — the pattern should remain clear.
